I am going to sound strict here. If you are not into being told the truth, please click out of this blog. Lovingly, of course. š«¶š¾
Let me preface this by saying that if you made it through this year with your mind intact, that is worthy of celebrationā100%. This year was A LOT. Everything since the pandemic has been A LOT.
That being said, I see a lot of people encouraging others to abandon their goals because life is hard enough, and goals just donāt matter in the grand scheme of things.
And I am sorry, but no.
Any person who loves and cares about you will encourage you to set goals and crush them. We all fall short of the mark sometimes, so do not beat yourself up if you do not reach each and every one of your goals.
However, if you find yourself falling short of meeting the goals YOU SET FOR YOURSELF, you should revisit those goals and get honest with yourself about why you did not reach those goals.
Did I put forth real effort?
When it got hard, did I give up, or did I go harder?
What could I have sacrificed to reach the goal?
Was the goal attainable to begin with?
Is this still a goal for me?
As we approach the new year, I want you to stop believing people who say having a soft life means being lazy or complacent. Your life this time next year will clearly reflect the goals you set now and what you do between now and then to make them a reality.
And let's be real - nobody ever accomplished anything amazing by saying, "Meh, goals are overrated." Can you imagine if BeyoncĆ© had decided goals weren't important? We wouldn't have Renaissance. I rest my case. š š¾
Here's the tea: setting goals isn't about torturing yourself or adding more pressure. It's about having a roadmap to your dreams. Without a map, you're just wandering around hoping to stumble into success (spoiler alert: that rarely works).
Now go forth and goal-set like your life depends on it (because, in many ways, it kind of does). And if anyone tries to tell you that goals don't matter, just smile and add "prove them wrong" to your goal list. š
With Love,
